How to perform wudu

The Importance of Wudu

  • The Wudu’ is defined as The Process of washing to become eligible for prayer in Islam.
  • “Wudu” is regarded as one of the most important practices and is considered as a way to achieve spiritual and ritual cleanliness.
  • The Muslim should remove the dirt, if exist, from his body and his clothes. Wudhu has to be done with pure and clean water.
  • The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “The prayer of a person who does not perform ablution is invalid, and the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah is invalid.

The Steps of Wudu

A-Washing the Hands

  • Make the intention of purifying yourself for Salah.
  • Start in the name of Allah by saying: ( بسم الله  ) Bismillaah – In the name of Allah.
  • Wash your hands, the right hand first then the left hand. Bring the water up to the wrists three times, so the water is in between your fingers.

B-Rinsing the Mouth and Nose

  • Water into the mouth three times, swish all around, and then rinse it clean.
  • Pick up the water to the nostrils give it a gentle blow, three times.

C-Washing the Face

  • Wash all your face three times, from the hairline to the bottom of the chin and from ear to ear.
  • Remember to reach every part of your face with the water.

D-Washing the Arms

  • First, the right arm should be washed, and next, the left from the fingertips to the elbows, then each process should be repeated for three times.

E-Wiping the Head

 Wet your hands and wipe the head once from the hairline to the neck and back again to the front.

F–Wiping inside of the ears

  • Keeping the hands wet, gently wipe the inside of the ears with the index finger and the outside of the ears with your thumb once.

G-Washing the Feet

  • Start by washing the right foot, the toes up to the heels and ankles. Do this three times. Don’t forget to rub between the toes.
  • Make sure that water goes over heel when you are going to wash your feet.
  • The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Woe to the heel bones from the Hellfire!” Sahih/Authentic.
  • Mostly, the heel bone which is in a place that water barely reaches, it leads to an ablution and prayer deficiency since they are essential to be washed in wudu’. Thus, the Prophet (PBUH) let us know that the heel bones along with the one who is heedless in washing them will be targeted by torment in the Hereafter.

Important Notes

  • Ensure to fill out the entirety of the process and you do not miss any places.
  • As you wash, pay attention to water usage and do not waste it.
  • After Wudu’, you should recite Ash-Shahaadah:

I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
